What is Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

The coronavirus family ranges from the common cold to MERS(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) and SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome). Coronaviruses infect animals and can be transmitted by animals to humans (zoonotic). Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious respiratory disease caused by a newly discovered novel coronavirus. It spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or nasal discharge when an infected person coughs or sneezes and at this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19 but symptoms can be treated. On March 11, the World Health Organisation declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a global pandemic, reaching more than 118 countries and affecting hundreds of thousands of people.

Measures to combat and slow down the rate of COVID-19 infection include social distancing and this has led to emergency lockdown of businesses, schools, cities, towns, country borders amongst others. In response charities, individuals and communities around the world are fundraising to help provide food, water, medical supplies and financial support to people in affected regions.

Campaigns can be created on behalf of affected individuals and communities or for yourself for various reasons such as:

1] Medical supplies provision like Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and oxygen saturation monitors to donate to hospitals and health professionals.
2] For charities and organizations.
3] For provision of care package, water, food and other basics to vulnerable members of the community.

Support can also be provided by donating to crowdfunding campaigns and sharing and creating exposure for the campaigns to attract even more donors.
