My name is Jimoh Ahmed, a journalist with over 20 years of reporting experience in Nigeria. I am writing to express interest in support under NED’s Independent Media program for a new initiative I am preparing to launch — The Weekly Pivot.

The Weekly Pivot will be a community-based newspaper serving rural and semi-urban populations in Ondo State, Nigeria. Our goal is to provide fact-based, development-focused journalism that amplifies local voices, promotes civic awareness, and holds public institutions accountable. We aim to reach underserved communities where media access is limited and public information gaps are wide.

Though this initiative is in its early stage, it builds upon my two decades of experience in local reporting, civic journalism, and media development. I have already established a foundational team, designed the editorial structure, and built a community network to support distribution. We plan to produce and distribute 5,000 weekly copies and also establish a digital extension through our website and social platforms.

We are seeking funding to help launch and sustain this initiative during its first year, covering printing, training of citizen reporters, and operational logistics.
