Campaign Story
Did you know that in many areas in Nigeria, many children dream of brighter future but lack the resources to pursue their dreams?
Take Ola, aged 12, who dream of becoming an engineer. During day time, extreme heat in classroom and pollution from school generators affect his health. Getting home to study at night, he lacks power supply. Ola’s access to electricity is limited, making it difficult to study after sunset.
Imagine, sitting in his dimly lit room, squinting at his textbooks by the faint glow of torchlight-phone. He gets his eyes strained to review his studies.
This lack of access to adequate power supply affects his academic performance and also impacts his health negatively. Without stable power to study day and night, Ola’s dreams of becoming a robotic engineer remain out of reach. This poses urgent need for sustainable solutions to power opportunities for children like Ola in rural Nigeria.
With Solar Powered Initiative to schools in Nigeria, we aim to integrate 5KVA solar energy into 5 schools across 2 regions in Nigeria (Lagos and Ogun state). This is to tackle power outage challenges in five schools and promoting sustainability through renewable energy solutions. Additionally, we aim to distribute solar reading lamps to 2000 students across these schools for nighttime individual studies, to enable an environment where learners can thrive. Also, the schools will be transformed the schools into centers of educational excellence and innovation.
With this initiative, students and teachers will be permanently out of the condition of getting out of class due to heat ascending on top of the roof of the class and seek shield under the tree to teach and learn. Sometimes, there would be no fuel to power generator in order to take the classes. Also, if the generator is powered, the fume coming out of the generator exhaust could cause damage to health of both learners and educators such as headache, catarrh and so on.
This initiative will not only encourage learning but also reduce noise and environmental pollution from powering generators, mitigating health hazards caused by its toxic emissions and promote green environment. It will also, transform these two cities for better and reduce expenses on fuel purchase.
On the long run, there will be constant power supply without expense on fuel. This is a renewable energy solution generating its power directly from sunlight to light up classrooms, laboratory, library and other staff rooms.
