Help Me Build My Art & Music Without Interruption
I’m Joannah, a multidisciplinary artist based in Lagos, Nigeria. I paint, design, write, and I’m currently writing and recording an EP.
For up to 5 years, I split myself in two: the 9-5 that paid some bills but didn’t provide financial stability nor time, and the artist I kept putting off. It was either my survival or my creation and I chose survival every time in order to keep afloat.
This year, I decided to stop waiting. I took a big and fearful leap by quitting my job.
Now I’m asking for support to buy myself 1 year of uninterrupted time, where the thought of rent doesn’t derail a painting, and hunger doesn’t cut a recording session short.
Here’s what your support will cover:
1. Rent for 1 year – ₦1,700,000
I would need a studio apartment space to live and work without eviction anxiety, so I can focus on creating instead of surviving.
2. Art materials for artworks, illustrations and handmade cards – ₦250,000
This will cover the basics like paints, canvasses, brushes, and other mixed media to produce a new body of work I’ll exhibit and share online, before the proceeds from my artworks start to come in.
3. Feeding support for up to 6 months – ₦350,000
This will cover basic nutrition so that my mind and energy can keep up with and focus on the work.
4. Recording of up to 4 songs from my EP – ₦600,000
This will cover studio time, producer fees, and mixing/mastering to release 3 songs professionally.
Total needed: ₦2,900,000 ($1934)
