The family of a two-year-old boy identified as Abdulkadiri Tayib who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, otherwise known as childhood cancer, is seeking the sum of N3.7m in financial help from members of the public.

According to Tayib’s family, the donations will be used to pay for the toddler’s leukaemia chemotherapy.

Also, a medical report by Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State attached to the appeal letter shows that Abdulkadiri was diagnosed on October 3, 2023.

The report says, “Tayib is a two-year-old, five-month-old boy who was first presented to us on October 34, 2023, on account of abdominal swelling for two months.

 “He had a nephrectomy on December 12, 2023. He is being managed for the left-sided stage. If nephroblastoma (with good histology).”

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia is a type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow that affects white blood cells. It is the most common childhood cancer. It occurs when a bone marrow cell develops errors in its deoxyribonucleic acid.

The mother of the boy, identified as Mrs. Yahaya Halimat, was quoted in the appeal letter as having said, “Abdulkadiri is my first child. He has been in a sick bed for months now. It hurts to see your child suffer, and you can’t help.”

She said neither her husband nor herself had the means to pay the medical bill while urging the public to help save her son from bone and blood cancer.

All donations will be used for his medical bills.
