Campaign Story

My name is popoola islamiyat, and I am a dedicated science student in Nigeria with a big dream. For years, I have studied the “how” of science in the laboratory. Now, I want to learn the “how” of telling those stories to the world. I am transitioning from a student of science to a Science Journalist, bridging the gap between complex research and public understanding.

The Challenge To take this next step, I am preparing for international scholarship applications and the IELTS English proficiency exam. As a student in Nigeria, the costs of international applications, exam fees, and the necessary digital tools for my journalism blog are a significant barrier.

Why Science Journalism? I believe that female voices in science media are essential. We need reporters who can explain health, climate, and technology in a way that empowers our community. My goal is to use my scientific background to provide accurate, engaging, and life-saving information through my writing.

How Your Support Helps I am raising funds to cover:

  • IELTS Examination Fees: To prove my English proficiency for global scholarships.

  • Scholarship Application Costs: Fees for international university submissions.

  • Professional Tools: Maintenance for my journalism blog and website to build my portfolio.

  • Research Materials: Books and resources to improve my science communication skills.

My Commitment to You Every kobo/cent donated is an investment in a future where science is accessible to everyone. I will be sharing my progress, my IELTS results, and my latest articles on my blog and TikTok so you can see exactly how your generosity is changing my life.

Thank you for being part of my journey from the lab to the global newsroom!
