Campaign Story
My name is Faruq, I’m 17 years old, and I dream of becoming a software engineer. For the past three months, I’ve been teaching myself through YouTube. So far, I’ve built a good foundation in JavaScript, Go, and Python, and I also know HTML and CSS.
Living in Nigeria makes things a bit harder, especially when it comes to finding guidance or support online. A lot of people are quick to judge because of the country’s reputation, but I’ve made up my mind to stay focused and do things the right way. I want to be among those who work hard and chase their dreams honestly.
Right now, my biggest challenge is not having a laptop. I’ve been coding on my phone, but it’s slow and limiting. Most tutorials are designed for laptops, and there are certain things I just can’t do properly on a phone. I even tried selling my phone to get a laptop, but it’s worth about ₦83,000 ($63), and I still can’t find a decent one within that range.
My parents would love to help, but they’re already doing their best to take care of me and my three siblings and give us a good education. I understand the situation, so I’m trying to figure things out on my own.
I also feel a bit lost sometimes because I don’t have a clear roadmap. I’ve been learning multiple programming languages since everyone says they’re important for the future. I know having a mentor would really help me stay on the right path, but even without one, I believe that if I can just get a laptop, I can keep learning and eventually achieve my goal.
I would truly appreciate any support or guidance you can offer. Thank you very much.
