Campaign Story

Every November, Nigeria’s farms give up their harvest, and for a few short weeks beans, rice and maize cost far less than at any other time of year. For most of us, that is a bargain. For 26 young people under the care of Satus Dignus, it decides whether the storeroom is full or empty in the months ahead. Who we are Since 2017, Satus Dignus Child Rescue Initiative has been pulling children off the streets of Ibadan and giving back what the street took: safety, schooling, family and dignity. Close to ten years on, we have worked with over 100 children. We are registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission and the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion. What a full plate makes possible The children arrive speaking little English and believing they could never become anything. Kolade and Ridwan who once lived on the streets, have represented Oyo State on the national youth chess team and are now university students.  Today 16 of our wards live with us full time, 5 others are being supported through university and other tertiary institutions, and 5 others are learning trades that will let them stand on their own. None of that works on an empty stomach. A child cannot learn, play chess or dream of the future while hungry. We cannot afford to have an empty store. The opportunity We capitalize on harvest periods to buy food at its lowest price. This November we plan to buy:

  • 15 bags of beans (100kg each) – ₦1,350,000
  • 15 bags of maize (100kg each) – ₦675,000
  • 15 bags of rice (50kg each) – ₦900,000

That is 3,750kg of food, costing ₦2,925,000 including transport and handling. Buy at harvest and every naira goes further. Wait, and the same money buys less. This food will contribute towards feeding our children for the next 12 months. We will buy other foodstuff whenever they come into season. Platform and payment fees are included in our goal, so every naira you give goes toward food. After the purchase, we will post photos and receipts here.
