Short Story

I’m Ijeoma Ikechukwu Oji, a Nigerian driven to power Lagos with renewable energy. I aim to pursue the University of Aberdeen’s online MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering, but the £14,820 tuition (~₦35 million) is beyond my reach, and I need your help to make this dream a reality. Twice, I was admitted to Master’s programs at Uppsala and Lund University campuses in Sweden, but couldn’t attend due to financial barriers. With the online MSc program, I don’t need to travel overseas, and I can cut costs while still receiving quality education from a top-class university.

My passion, born from Lagos’s power and environmental challenges, drives me to create a sustainable future. The MSc’s training in sustainable energy solutions and energy policy will enable me to advocate for a circular economy in Lagos. Please donate generously, any amount, and share my story. Your support powers Nigeria’s future!

Campaign Story

Introduction:
My name is Ijeoma Ikechukwu Oji, a passionate Nigerian with a dream to drive sustainable change in Lagos through renewable energy. I’m reaching out to this incredible community to support my journey to pursue an online Master’s in Renewable Energy Engineering at the University of Aberdeen, a globally recognized program that will equip me with the skills to contribute to Nigeria’s transition to a circular economy. The tuition of £14,820 is a significant barrier for me, and your support can make this dream a reality.

My Story:
For two years in a row, I faced disappointment when I was accepted into prestigious Master’s programs at Uppsala University and Lund University in Sweden, only to miss out due to financial constraints. Notwithstanding, these missed opportunities have fueled my determination to find a way forward, leading me to the University of Aberdeen’s flexible, online MSc program—a perfect fit for my goals and circumstances.

My Passion for Renewable Energy:
Growing up in Lagos, I’ve witnessed the challenges of unreliable power, environmental degradation, and the urgent need for sustainable energy solutions. My passion for renewable energy—particularly wind, solar, and energy systems—stems from a desire to address these challenges and create a cleaner, more resilient future for Nigeria. I believe renewable energy is key to transforming Lagos into a hub for sustainable innovation, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and fostering a circular economy where resources are reused and regenerated.

Why This Program?:
The University of Aberdeen’s MSc in Renewable Energy Engineering is a triple-accredited, world-class program that covers wind, solar, hydro, and energy policy. Over three years, it will equip me with cutting-edge technical skills in turbine design, energy systems, and project management, as well as the knowledge to navigate the economic and policy aspects of renewable energy. This comprehensive training will prepare me to lead projects that integrate renewable energy into Lagos’s infrastructure, such as microgrids for communities or sustainable energy policies for urban development. The online format allows me to study while remaining in Nigeria, applying my learning directly to local challenges and greatly reducing costs for studying in person on campus overseas.

Impact on Lagos and Nigeria:
With this degree, I aim to contribute to Lagos’s transition to a circular economy by:

  • Designing renewable energy solutions tailored to Nigeria’s urban and rural needs, such as solar-powered systems for schools and hospitals.
  • Advocating for policies that promote clean energy adoption and waste-to-energy initiatives.
  • Collaborating with local businesses and government to build sustainable infrastructure, creating jobs and reducing environmental impact. My goal is to return my expertise to Lagos, mentoring young engineers and driving projects that make our city a model for sustainability in Africa.

Why I Need Your Support:
The tuition for this program is £14,820 (approximately ₦35 million), a significant amount in Nigeria, where economic challenges and currency fluctuations make such costs prohibitive for many, including myself. Despite exploring scholarships and personal savings, I still face a funding gap. Your contribution, no matter how small, will help cover tuition, allowing me to focus on my studies and make a lasting impact. Any additional funds raised will support study materials, internet access, and potential travel for research or networking opportunities
