Campaign Story

My name is Mabel Francis.

Life forced me to grow up too soon. My mom, a nurse, fell ill when I was 4. My dad couldn’t care for us, so I lived with others for 10 years, facing maltreatment until human rights intervened.

I returned to find my mom still sick and my dad battling alcohol. I dropped out of school, sold pure water, bitter leaf, and women’s footwear to survive. Just when I began saving to learn a skill, my dad had a stroke. I cared for him until he passed in December 2023, selling everything and borrowing money for his burial.

• Now, I’ve paid my debts,and started learning nail technology to fund my nursing dream — but I can’t afford to complete my training or pay my school fees.
