Short Story

First Class Graduate Struggling to Make Ends Meet

My name is Rosemary Ijeoma Okorie, and I’m a First Class Graduate in Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria.

Distinction in Postgraduate Diploma in Education with National Teacher’s Institute.

Despite my academic excellence, I’ve been struggling to secure a job since my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2016.

I come from a poor background, and my family relies on me for support. My husband, also a graduate, lost his job due to economic challenges, and we’ve been facing financial difficulties ever since.

I’ve been working as an Ad-hoc staff at my alma mater since 2019, but the job is unstable, and the pay is meager (30,000 Naira quarterly). I’ve been lecturing Year One and Diploma students, but my efforts seem to be in vain.

I’ve been accepted into a Master’s program at the same university, but I need financial support to continue my research and complete my degree. My dream is to become a Professor, but without a stable job and financial backing, it seems impossible.

I’m reaching out for help because I’m desperate. I need a job that utilizes my skills and qualifications. I need financial support to complete my research and advance my career.

Please consider supporting me through this difficult time. Your contribution will go towards my job search, research, and career advancement.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
