For 40 years, my sister has battled sickle cell anemia, enduring chronic, excruciating pain that no human should have to live with. Today, she is in her second month in the hospital, and our family is struggling to afford the medical care she urgently needs.
Years of repeated hospital admissions, sleepless nights, emergency trips, and bills running into millions of naira have taken an enormous toll on our family. Watching someone you love cry out in unbearable pain while feeling powerless to help is a suffering of its own.
Why we need your help now
Her veins are always difficult to access whenever she has her crisis, injections are now administered in her thighs, which are already sore, swollen, and stiff. Daily continuous needle prick adds to her suffering.
A chemo port would provide easier access for IV fluids, injections, and blood transfusions, reducing the repeated needle pricks and making her treatment more bearable. She also needs surgery, including a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.
Our fundraising target is ₦9 million, to cover chemo port installation, related pre- and post-surgical expenses, blood transfusion, and laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
Our greatest dream is to one day afford a bone marrow transplant that could offer her a chance at a healthier life. Until then, we want to ease her suffering and give her access to the care she desperately needs.
After 40 years of fighting this battle, we can no longer carry the financial burden alone. We are reaching out in faith, hope, and humility.
