Our son Jayden Chibuikem Michael is a sweet little boy. He is receptive of people, smiles generously and warms up to anyone he gets introduced to. He is hardly irritable, often jovial and the life of the party. He is a twin, born prematurely through a caesarean section. At about 7 months of his pregnancy, I was diagnosed with placenta previa and had to be admitted for about 7 weeks because I had several episodes of vaginal bleeding. After a very turbulent period I had a caesarean delivery to my bundles of joy; Jayna and Jayden. We went through the rigors of incubator care, phototherapy, exchange blood transfusion and prolonged ICU care. We struggled to keep up with the huge financial burden but God was faithful. Sadly, upon discharge, it was observed that Jayden had a heart murmur that had refused to disappear. An ECHO was immediately ordered which showed congenital heart defects; 2 holes in the heart as well as a narrowing of the blood vessel that takes blood to his lungs. We were utterly broken and distraught. Since then, we have had numerous visits to paediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and radiologists. He was placed on medications to prevent his heart from failing for nearly a year now. The paediatric cardiologists have informed us of the urgent need to surgically correct those defects to prevent irreversible damage to his tender heart. We have scrapped and grasped at whatever likely source of funds possible and have only been able to raise half of the 7 million required to get the surgery done. We are now desperate and wouldn’t have opted for this if we had other options left.
