Short Story

  1. The passing of Mr. Sunday Nathaniel Chukwukerem has left his wife, Mrs. Justina Chinyere Chukwukerem, and their two children in unimaginable hardship. As the sole provider, his death has plunged the family into financial despair. Mrs. Justina, now a stroke survivor, is unable to work, leaving the family with no source of income. The family is burdened by the costly traditional funeral rites required by their Igbo culture. Without fulfilling these rites, they cannot find closure or peace. To make matters worse, their home—a red mud house—has been demolished to make way for a befitting structure for the funeral. They now live in terrible conditions, with no proper shelter or means to rebuild. Mrs. Justina’s health is another pressing concern. As a stroke survivor, she requires ongoing medical treatment, which the family cannot afford. The children, who should be focusing on their education and future, are instead caught in a cycle of poverty and uncertainty. This family has lost everything—their provider, their home, and their stability. They have no assets to sell and no way to raise the funds needed to honor their late husband and father or to rebuild their lives. Your support can change their story. By contributing to this campaign, you can help the Chukwukerem family fulfill the traditional funeral rites, provide a safe home, ensure Mrs. Justina receives the medical care she needs, and establish a sustainable source of income. Together, we can give this family a chance to heal, rebuild, and thrive.
