Campaign Story

Hi my name is Zainab Akintunde and on behalf of myself, my husband, and Detail Academy we are heartbroken to hear of the sudden passing of one of our members.
Detail Academy was founded by my husband Coach Ak Akintunde, an extremely passionate retired professional basketball player. We run a youth basketball academy dedicated to the training, development, and scholastic placement of young elite talent.

Ralph was one of our special talents who suddenly fell victim to the deadly malaria parasite ultimately causing his passing. He was a gentle giant with a lovely smile and very loved by his basketball community, friends, and family.

Our main motivation for what we do is to give kids like Ralph a chance for better opportunities in life through their talent and hard work. Many of them are not afforded certain luxuries and basketball has served them hope to change the course of their lives as well as their families.

Ralph was one of those kids on the path to a brighter future. Before his demise his I-20 student visa letter was approved to attend a top school in the US on a full athletic scholarship. Sadly this dream will no longer be fulfilled…..

As we know, this is every parent’s worst nightmare playing in real time. Ralph leaves behind his mother and sisters. He was the main provider and his basketball path would have given him the chance to raise his family out of financial hardship, and turn their lives for the better.

We don’t wish to forget his family as they were his motivation. While there is no amount of money to take away the pain of loss, we at Detail stand to support his family in every way we can.
