I am Chinasa Edith Okengwu, a young and dynamic Nigerian lady battling End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Prior to the diagnosis, I lived a full life as a Chartered Engineer and a political activist. I am a graduate of the University of Port Harcourt and hold two masters degrees from University of Lagos, Akoka and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. I am a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Management.
My diagnosis was a shock to my doctors and I because the underlying conditions that lead to renal failure – diabetes and High blood pressure – were all non-existent. The cause of my kidney failure remains unknown.
After the diagnosis in 2017, I was bed ridden for 6 months and had to undergo dialysis three times a week. After a few months, I was able to leave the hospital and then planned to travel to the US for a few weeks basically to be in a different environment that would not remind me of my situation. While still on board the plane, I had a crisis and upon landing I was rushed to the hospital. I spent three (3) weeks on admission in a hospital in New York and had to remain in New York to avoid any other episode. Everything in my life has changed! Everything!
The doctors have stated that the only solution to this situation is a kidney transplant. I have spent the last few months looking for a donor and fortunately, I found one recently. I am so grateful to him for accepting to share a part of himself with me.
The cost of the transplant process is $250,000.00 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand Dollars). This will cover the Evaluation Cost for both the Donor and I, the Surgery Cost and Post-Surgery Treatment Cost, and Air Ticket. I also have to be on a $10,000.00 (Ten thousand dollars) anti-rejection medication every month.
I have spent my life savings on my health and I am unable to do this last bit by myself. I solicit your kind support to take me back to a place where I can live a comfortable life devoid of pain and distress.
Thank you so much.
